The Construction department has the main objective the Scientific and Technological Research in areas related with Buildings and Civil Works.
This objective encompasses three research lines:
For developing these lines and, for the external service, the Department also includes the following specific laboratories:
Water supply and drainage laboratory: This laboratory conducts all kind of tests on (mainly plastic) joints, pipes and accessories used in water supply and drainage systems. It also tests hot water and heating circuits as well as valves.
Architectural acoustics laboratory: This laboratory tests construction members, both in situ and in its standardized laboratory chambers, for their acoustic performance when exposed to air-borne noise or impact. A special test facility has been implemented for acoustic measures of waste water systems
Chimney laboratory: This facility evaluates and tests gas and smoke evacuation systems.
Mortar and Concrete laboratories: This laboratory develops and evaluates different types of concretes: high performance self-compacting, fiber, ecoconcretes...
Mechanical test of structural elements
