The main objective of the GEN VERDE project is to contribute to the ecological transition through the decarbonisation of the industrial sector by researching new modular and intelligent systems for solar renewable energy generation and thermal energy storage, as well as to manage and maximise the solar and wind renewable resource in a way that allows improving the efficiency and reducing the operational cost of the industry.

The research activity will focus on several relevant aspects: The investigation of a modular, small-scale CST (Concentrated Solar Thermal) heat source for industry, generating heat at temperatures up to 565ºC for industry; The investigation and design of a new modular tank, including its filler materials/molten salts and laboratory-scale tests to verify the resolution of the thermal storage challenges proposed in the project, encompassing research on issues related to compatibility, ageing, scaling, integration, operation, etc; Research on high-performance heaters to achieve high storage temperatures, research on an intelligent data management system between all sub-systems, as well as hybridisation and decision making according to industry demand and energy supply from different sources.
