Aurora López Delgado is a research scientist at the CSIC, where she works on the characterisation and recycling of waste, by-products and secondary materials, the development of new processes for the synthesis of materials using waste as a raw material, and wastewater treatment processes. In recent years, a new line of research has been started on the use of concentrated solar energy in chemical processes related to the recovery of materials from conventional raw materials and wastes, which require large energy inputs due to their endothermic nature, aiming at obtaining high value materials from non-polluting energy sources at low economic and environmental cost. The synthesis of high-value materials (glass, glass-ceramics, ferrites, aluminas, zeolites, hydrotalcites, light aggregates, etc.) from industrial and mining waste has driven her career in research, development and innovation, co-founding the MEDES (Materials and Energy for Sustainable Development) group at CSIC together with Dr Maximina Romero.
She has led more than 20 projects/contracts, of which more than 32% correspond to international competitive calls (LIFE, ECSC, AECID, SFERA). She is co-author of more than 160 scientific publications, of which more than 75% correspond to international journals included in the Science Citation Index, Journal Citation Reports (JCR), published by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). She is co-inventor of 9 patents, of which 4 are world priority patents and 1 European patent. In her scientific activity, she has collaborated with research groups belonging to universities and technological centres, both national (UCM, UAM, UPM, UCIII, IMIDRA, CENER, IMDEA, CIEMAT, …) and foreign (UFSC-Br, CNPq-Br, CNRS-Fr, UAM-Mx, UNIV-SFAX-Tn, USTO-Al, UNIMORE-IT, BFI-Ge, …).
