From October 1996 until 1998 she was Marie Curie fellowship at the Department of Materials, Imperial College, London, UK, acquiring a wide knowledge on glass nucleation phenomena and its study by means of differential thermal analysis (DTA).  Her current research interests include processing and technological characterisation of clay-based ceramics (porcelain stoneware ceramic tiles and bricks), lightweight aggregates (foamed glass and expanded clay), zeolites and valorisation of industrial and mining wastes by vitrification and sintering processes.

Dra. Romero regularly acts as Project Evaluator for the international certification agency “European Quality Assurance (EQA); Scientific-technical evaluator for the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP); AENOR expert and Technical Evaluator of Projects (TEP) for the technical and economic evaluation of R+D+i projects. She is also a member of the AENOR National Committee CTN 061 ” REFRACTORY MATERIALS” and CTN 136 “BUILDING MATERIALS FROM FIRED CLAY”.

She has participated in 70 projects, contracts and technical research works. She is co-author of more than 180 scientific publications in the field of glass, ceramics and glass-ceramic materials and 125 contributions to Congresses and Conferences. She is also scientific co-editor of 3 materials science books.
